Where you can fight
The city
The Hearth inside its wall, and a little past it so the way to each gate is covered. A Rust safe zone: draw a gun and you turn hostile, and the Watch keeps you out of the city until it passes.
Safe camps
30 m round a settlement's heater, the Smugglers' Den, and Rust's own safe places: the ranch, the barn and the fishing villages. Green rings on the map.
Everywhere else
Plain Rust: PvP and raiding everywhere outside the safe places. The heat rings only warm you; they don't protect you.
Inside a safe place no player can hurt another, animals and NPCs can't hurt players, buildings can't be damaged and the patrol helicopter holds its fire. While the council's Night Curfew law stands, PvP is off everywhere at night.
Nobody builds at the places: each has a red no-build zone, and nobody builds within 7 m of any heater. One tool cupboard per team inside the lit rings, so a few teams can't claim all the warm ground.
02
Teams of four
Teams and clans hold at most 4 players; the game won't take a fifth. No alliances above it: two teams that farm, build or fight together count as one, and teaming past the limit is a ban.
03
In game
- No cheats, scripts, macros or exploits. Found a bug or an exploit? Report it privately to the Watch, don't use it.
- The city and the settlements' camps are PvE; everywhere else is PvP. Don't abuse the safe places to grief, block or bait other players: no walling in a gate, no luring people out to your friends.
- Team limit: 4. No alliances above it.
- No racist or hateful names, signs or base designs.
04
On Discord
- Be decent. No harassment, slurs, racism or personal attacks.
- No personal info and no call-outs. Report players to the Watch with a clip instead.
- No advertising other servers or communities.
- English in public channels, so everyone can follow.
- Follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
05
What gets you banned
- Cheating: aim or ESP tools, scripts, macros, anything that plays for you.
- Using an exploit or a bug for an edge instead of reporting it.
- Teaming or allying past four.
- Using the safe places to grief, block or bait other players.
- Racist or hateful names, signs, base designs or chat.
- Harassment, slurs, threats or posting someone's personal information, in game or on Discord.
- Advertising other servers.
Staff decisions are final. To appeal a ban, message a Steward on our Discord.
06
Reporting a player
In game, type /report <name> <what happened> in chat (or /report <what happened> without a name). It goes straight to the staff on Discord and to any admin online, with your grid square. One report every two minutes.
On Discord, send the Watch a clip. Don't call players out in public channels. Bugs go to #bug-reports; exploits only to the Watch, privately.
The rest of how the city works is in the survival guide.
